This gene encodes a seven-pass transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor that regulates neurotransmitter release from sympathetic nerves and adrenergic neurons in the central nervous system. Mutations cause familial adult myoclonic epilepsy type 2, an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by onset in adulthood. The epilepsy primarily affects the motor system with myoclonic seizures being the predominant feature.
